A message from Principal Davia:

Welcome to the Union Local High School website. Our hope is that you find our website to be user-friendly and informative. After visiting the site, we hope that you will have a clear understanding of the educational offerings at Union Local High School. Union Local High School serves approximately 485 students in ninth through twelfth grades. We are located in Belmont County near Morristown, Ohio. Students here are offered countless opportunities through the extensive number of curricular and co-curricular activities that are offered.

Union Local High School is a great place to teach and learn. We have achieved excellence through the collaborative efforts of our community, parents and guardians, school personnel, district administrators, board of education and most importantly our students. We at Union Local recognize the importance of this collaborative effort as we make academic advancements in the future.

 Union Local school district has gone through the Ohio Improvement Process and has set three goals for the next three years. The first goal is to increase the percentage of students proficient in reading by at least 9 percentage points (average 3 per year) by 2012. This will be measured by scores on the OGT/OAT. The second goal is to increase the percentage of students’ proficient in math by at least 12 percentage points (average 4 per year) by 2012. This as well will be measured by scores on the OGT/OAT. The third goal is to increase student attendance by at least 3 percentage points (average 1 per year) by 2012. This will be measured by EMIS. One of the action steps to accomplish goals one and two is to introduce different strategies on summarizing and note taking. Goal three will be accomplish by implementing a philosophy of invitational education promoting positive conditions utilizing elements of character education and respect.

As you browse the pages of this website, you will notice that Union Local offers a variety of extracurricular activities to our students. Students are encouraged to become involved in the extracurricular activities. Scholastic achievement often improves when students become involved in sports, music, drama, and school sponsored clubs. Extracurricular activities provide an opportunity for peers with similar goals and values to express themselves in a structured, supervised environment. It teaches students responsibility, time management, and sportsmanship, working within a team or group, and countless other core values.
