Text Box: This year Union Local Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) has been doing a lot of exciting things and traveling to exciting places. Our chapter has been busy making ornaments and thank you cards for the military overseas to enjoy during the Christmas holiday season. A few members of our chapter have volunteered their time to watch and do activities with the kids during the elementary PTO meetings. A story hour was also held at the Bethesda Library in December. We have also volunteered two Saturdays at the Soup Kitchen in Text Box: Wheeling. In September, Brenynn Butler attended The Ultimate State Officer Academy in Washington, D.C, there she met with a member of Charlie Wilson’s staff and advocated for the Perkins Act. In November nine members traveled to Cincinnati for the National Cluster Meeting. While there they got to attend workshops, general sessions, and toured the city. Fifteen members of our chapter attended a career day, where they learned careers involved in professional basketball and got to watch a Cleveland Text Box: Cavaliers game. Another great thing this year is that our chapter is competing at the regional level with 4 events. The events are Outstanding Chapter, Focus on Children, Chapter Service Display, and Chapter Showcase Manual. Kayla Solar, Elizabeth Law, Jenna Keyser, Kasi Kostellia, Katie Borkoski, Dayna Davis, Keena Brown, Micahlene Mehl, Bethanie Brown, Brenynn Butler, Kara Weekley and alternate Jordan Skelton are all working hard to get their projects ready for the Region 8 Rally on March 7, 2009.

Attention Union Local Families,   Last year, Union Local Elementary School participated for the first time in, Walk Now For Autism.   Our team raised $300 for the cause.  Autism Speaks Walk Now for Autism is the nation's largest grassroots autism walk program and fund raising event.  If you or anyone you know has been touched by a child with autism, it would be great to have you participate in the Walk this year.  Union Local Schools are invited to participate in the walk, which is Saturday May 30 @ Warwood Elementary School in Wheeling.  There is a Kick-Off Dinner on Friday, April 17 at River City.  Last year we ordered U.L. team tee-shirts that looked great.  Please contact Kara Erwin @ 740-782-1385 (or any elementary number), ext. #333.
