We appreciate the time you took to fill out the parent survey sent home this year with your child. Reviewing this survey has been helpful in providing the best education possible to your children. The three main concerns noticed in the survey were:

1. The afternoon parent pick up procedure

2. Student behavior on the bus

3. Student behavior at recess/bullying

To address the first issue, we began placing more teachers out by the front door during dismissal, calling out 3-5 students then K-2, and having teachers match students up with the adult there to pick them up before letting them leave. This was done last year for 2 weeks and was generally executed in under 10 minutes.

As far as the second issue, I pledge to do a better job this year keeping open communication with the bus drivers about student behavior. I have in the past suspended students from the bus and will keep doing this in the future if their behavior creates problems for drivers and other students. I realize suspending students from the bus is as much or more of a punishment for parents than students, but I will use this when it is necessary.

At recess we will have more teachers out with students each day. We are also participating in Rachel's Challenge and the STARS Program again this year where students are rewarded for good behavior. There are also some class lessons included with Rachel's Challenge that deal with bullying and how to prevent/address it.
