ULES Young Writers

This year we are going to celebrate student achievement in writing at ULES. Each month there will be a theme featured that students will write about. Teachers will pick one example of good writing from each class to feature in the hallway in front of our office. Mr. Bizzari, Tech Coordinator for UL Schools will also scan each piece and post them on our website. Parents and other community members are welcome to check out these well written assignments on our walls and our website.

The Union Local Elementary open house and first day of school went quite well. We would like to thank the families that brought their children out to visit their new teachers and check out the school. We have many enjoyable and exciting activities planned this year and are extremely happy to get back to work with our children.

New Tech Tools at ULES

Thanks to cooperation between the district and our great ULES PTO your children will have a new tech teaching tool this year. We were able to purchase 6 mimio units and the hardware required to run them. Mimios turn any flat white wall space into an interactive whiteboard where teachers can bring lessons they create or retrieve from the internet and present them to students. Teachers and students can even interact with the computer with the mimio device.

Fun at the Pool

On Friday, August 13 students from last year's 3rd through 5th grade class that passed all of their Ohio Achievement Assessments got to have some fun at the Barnesville Pool. The students all seemed to enjoy themselves a great deal and were very well behaved and polite. Students that passed all their OAA's and hit at least one of the Jet Targets set out for them last school year will also recieve a free t-shirt once school starts. Mr. Bowling would like to send out a thank you to all the parents and teachers that stayed to have fun. Also, a special thanks goes out to the PTO for covering the cost of the t-shirts. If you didn't get to go to the party we plan on doing this again this coming year. So keep working hard and you'll get to have fun with us this summer.

Open House and First Day

Remember that Open House will be held on Tuesday, August 24 from 3 to 6 PM. Mr. Bowling would like to talk to parents who are here in the cafeteria around 5:30 to get you up to speed on some changes and to welcome the new members of the UL family.

Also, the first day of school will be Wednesday, August 25. We will start promptly at 9 AM, so if you plan on driving your child to school please arrive at least 10 minutes before that time or sooner. Students will be let in the school at 8:30. We will start dismissing students at 3:10. Please remember not to park by the cones again in the afternoon so that busses have room to pick up students and get out. Some students have quite a long ride home so we need to speed it up for them.

We're all very excited to get the new year started and start working with your children again.

Hello Everyone, the ULES office is open once again to answer questions or register students. Office hours will be between 8 and 3:30 each day until Open House and the first day of school. Class lists and needed supplies should be hung on our front doors soon.
