| Q1: What are the strengths of this school? | Q2: What needs to be improved? |
| 1st day seems early for feedback. | |
| Academics | Respect/Communication |
| Academics first. Constantly trying to upgrade academics. | More parent/student involvement. |
| After touring the middle school, I was impressed that the classrooms have been updated along with the rest of the schools. | |
| Care about children. | |
| Children | |
| Computers | One on one with students. |
| District link | Discipline on bus. |
| Drill system | Lunch food (1) |
| Education | Lockers (1) |
| Friendly environment. | |
| Good | |
| Good about keeping in touch with parents. | |
| Good leadership. Overall desire to help children succeed. | Needs to be less bullying by students and less favoritism by teachers. |
| Having new teachers and new responsibilities, I believe this survey would/could be more accurately accessed after the first 9 weeks. | |
| Helping children strive for excellence. | Communication between teachers and parents. |
| I feel that academically it is outstanding! | |
| I like Progress Book - it keeps parents informed. | Way too much emphasis on sports. Academics are more important in life but less important at Union Local. |
| I think the school is strong academically. | I feel if there are problems with a student, the parents should be informed and discuss solutions prior to progress reports. |
| I think they have good teachers. | Better food in cafeteria (tray). |
| Interaction between teacher/parents. | |
| Keeping the parents posted online of assignments and tests. | |
| Learning | |
| My kid just started in middle school. I have yet to see what happens. | |
| My son is a very sensitive and caring child. He is very impulsive and has a hard time making friends. I hope he can overcome this. I hope teachers promote positive behavior and not condone so much teasing. | |
| No idea. Just moved here. | Don't know. Just moved here. |
| Our school works hard to meet the needs of all the students. A good learning environment that is safe and up-to-date. Many teachers who really care about each student and help them to reach their goals. | The amount of homework that has been assigned in the past. I feel homework is very important for their learning, but at times hours of homework after school is too much for them and causes stress on the whole family. There have been school years when all we do in the evening is homework and have no time for other regular family life. A small amount of homework on the weekends once in a while is fair, but we all have family activities that are just as important also. I agree homework is very important and helps the students, but they should not have a full evening of school work after a full day of school. |
| Protection of the children while at school. | |
| PTO | |
| Safe environment | Nothing |
| Safety | |
| Security | |
| Sports | |
| Teachers - they know what to teach so students understand. | Less athletic attention and more academic attention. |
| Teachers | |
| The caring and the eagerness to teach my children. | Nothing that I can think of. |
| The lunches are healthy and good tasting. | Hallways should be bigger and have long time to get to class. |
| The middle school and up works with you. I really like the idea of online progress reports. They work with you to better your child's education. When issues arise they deal with them. | Elementary would run more smoothly if they had online access. For the most part, teachers work with you. However, we have had one teacher who degrades and treats her students like cattle. She needs to improve or retire 5th grade! Also, when issues arise, they need dealt with. |
| The possibilities of being able to take advanced classes if child is excelling in areas. | |
| The school has a great computer training. The experience students get on computers will help then tremendously for the rest of their lives. | Lunch Menu - my child is always hungry. The basic tray should have enough nutritional value to sustain a child. Instead the basic tray is offered for free or reduced prices and in order for the child to have enough food, parents have to buy more food. |
| The school seems to be making some different improvements in different aspects which is always a good thing. I was impressed with Union Local's "report card" the superintendent talked about in the paper. | I based my answers on last years experiences. One teacher made a comment to her class that my child was going to have to "learn how to walk the line because he was going to spend a lot of time in jail". Also, my husband went to a different school district in the valley and was "quizzing" my children on some basic history questions and they couldn't answer the majority of them. |
| The security that it provides. | |
| The sports department. | |
| The staff | Higher quality of education. Don't just teach to pass tests. |
| The way it keeps the children safe in the schools. | |
| Very friendly atmosphere. Teachers are willing to help in way the student needs. Glad to be a part of the district. | |
| Athletic involvement | |
| Bullying is also an issue that needs addressed. | |
| Do not send home surveys about the school for me to answer when my child has only been there for 2 days! I know nothing about this middle school. When I went to school, I went to Belmont for middle school with students from 3 communities so I am sure it doesn't compare, but I haven't had a chance to find that out. | |
| Give parents more time to fill out paperwork; that way, we have actually read the handbook before we sign papers. | |
| I think there should be more meeting between parents and teachers good or bad instead of waiting. | |
| More bus routes. We live 3 miles from the school but they travel a different (very long) route and do not get home until over an hour after school lets out. | |
| More emphasis on academics less on sporting accomplishments. | |
| Parents should be more informed. | |
| Principal from prior years very disrespectful. | |
| Restroom policy - a child's restroom habits can't be regulated throughout the 9 week period. If a child has to use the restroom, more than 3 times in a 9 week period, they are not allowed to go?! I think this needs to be evaluated. I realize that you can't have children running in and out of class, but you can't punish those who really need to go either. | |
| Students should never be able to leave school property unsupervised without written permission from a parent. | |
| The way aids treat (scream) at the kids at lunch in elementary, it is awful. There is also a few teachers in elementary that do the same…one in first and one in fifth. I am really glad my one son went to 6th. | |
| There should be more consideration for other commitments that do not involve a school sport. |
